The origins of BukiBook took place out of a personal need of the founder, Clayton Pikero. After the birth of my own child, I thought it was essential that he also learn the language of my roots, Papiamentu. The realization grew that many other parents, regardless of their home language, would attach the same value to passing on language and culture. Of BukiBook we want to encourage not only parents, but also primary schools and libraries to let children read books in their home language in addition to books in Dutch. Reading books in their own home language contributes to children's identity and self-esteem, and we strive to support this.
With a wide range of books available in more than 30 different languages, our goal is simple: we want to make books accessible to every child, in every language they speak. We believe that the diversity of languages and cultures is a wealth to be celebrated, and we are committed to contributing to this cultural adventure of discovery and understanding.
